Poorly googled obituary - Alan Whicker
Alan Whicker died this week of bronchial pneumonia.Whicker was a television presenter in the 1970s (or, to use today's terminology, a paedophile*) known particularly for his documentaries that saw him travel all around the globe.
One of the few celebrities to have a surname given to him by the family horse, he spent a long and successful career as a globetrotting journalist. He exposed vice and corruption wherever he found it, although critics suggested he overstepped the journalistic line when he dated Haitian dictator Papa Doc Duvalier, who he knew as 'the daddy'.
Alan cashed in on his fame, appearing in a number of commercials for American Express, the US national bus network. He then went on to further success with Whicker's World, a successful retailer of environmentally-friendly furniture.
Alan Whicker has the distinction of having two films made of his life, starring Edward Woodward and Nicolas Cage respectively, the first of which was good and the second of which starred Nicolas Cage.
When asked how he felt about a life of adventure, fame and international travel, ending at the age of 87, he replied, "That'll do nicely."
Goodbye Mr Whicker, you'll be missed.
*Not really. Alan Whicker was not to my knowledge a paedophile. You see, this is a joke about how it seems that everyone back then was... oh forget it.
