Feeling a bit peaky

The North wins again!

At the weekend, the sun was shining, the birds were singing and Bonnie was sitting there, looking at me with longing.

Then Beardog called to let me know he had borrowed a bike and wanted to go on a ride.

So I suggested he hop on and meet me halfway - in Bakewell in the (it turned out) lovely Peak District.

What I had not realised was that a) Beardog had borrowed a Triumph Street Triple, which is second only to Bonnie in the sexiest bikes list but also really very powerful, b)it was his first ride after passing hit test and c) England was enjoying its first hurricane force winds of the season.

In hindsight, perhaps I should have met him at his house.

Fortunately, he managed to hang on and stay upright all the way to Bakewell, where we wandered the quaint and picturesque streets and learned:

1. It's not a tart, it's a pudding.
2. Mr Kipling is not welcome in the town of Bakewell
3. Even within the town itself, there is much debate over what constitutes an 'original' pudding
4. An attempt to compare and contrast different puddings = diabetes within 24 hours
5. There is also a motorcycle museum there. Nobody cared.

We then headed out for a bit of a ride around the countryside where we enjoyed looking at amazing countryside and regular signs saying 'bikers die on these roads'. Which was comforting.

Finally, we stopped for a bite to eat at a pub that specialised in terse service and reprimanding us every few minutes (including 'you can only sit there if you're going to eat' 'But we are eating'. 'You can't sit there, it's a table for five' despite the fact that there were not five other people in the place and, 'please sit on the chair properly'. A warm welcome, a real treat. Five stars).

And after that, we went home.

Thanks Beardog, it was ace.

Hope you all had as much fun as I did.

Congrats to Beardog on surviving the journey... but bad news about the unfriendly pub. Are you sure you hadn't wandered into a prep school dining hall by mistake? Your comment about 'sitting properly on the chair' took me right back to my pre-Busty school days.

Dr Terror and I passed a lovely weekend in Oxford weekend before last - necking champers at his Alma Mater, boating along the river etc... all very civilised.

Plus, this time when we checked out of our hotel we weren't seen off by a hail of glass bottles and shouts of 'don't ever come back here' which I felt was a bonus - although I think that secretly, Dr Terror felt cheated.

How were you sitting on the chair?

There may have been some leaning back, even if only briefly. The Beardog did have a splendid day and thanks to the experience, managed to pass his "Police Bike Safe" test - an assesment most constabularies offer free when they are running low on "bikers die" signage. Mrs Beardog still remains to be impressed. Even less so, when Beardog announced he was going to the Moto GP to find out what's involved in racing at 180 mph.
Incidentally bearedog has no actual interest in the Moto GP but is simply desperate to get back on two wheels.
Beardog invites juvenile Dementia to the Superbike round at the end of July for which he has some free tickets, thanks to Triumph's participation.
