A law unto ourselves

Well done the Archbish of Canterbury for suggesting that our Muslim chums be allowed to enjoy the rule of Sharia law, as opposed to that pesky one-size-fits-all law that we struggle under in the UK.

OK, admittedly the Guardian informs me that there are 5 different common interpretations of that law, but these things are mere details to be decided.

In fact, as one whose moral compass points me in a different direction to much of the prevailing version of 'right and wrong', I'd say the Bish doesn't go far enough.

So, I'm going to make my own suggestion - Pick'n Mix Punishment.

The system is simple. At the age of 16, everyone gets to fill out a questionnaire such as...

1. I think killing people is:
a) always wrong
b) ok, but only in wars and stuff
c) ok in wars, defence of self, friends and family and licensed venues
d) fine
f) to be encouraged

2. Sex before marriage should be:
a) Punishable by stoning to death (the woman that is. The man should be verbally reprimanded)
b) Punishable with public shame, but no actualy punishment
c) avoided where possible, kept quiet where not
d) something between you and your partner
e) legally enforced

...and so on.

Then, when you're taking in for having done something that appears to be 'wrong' we can simply check your original quesionnaire to see which brand of law you have signed up to for the crime in question, and punish accordingly.

Everyone gets the legal system they want.
